The other thing is Meerkat - because arttse has put on $50K - that does not mean that he has 'punted' $50K !!!
If he is using a money management plan then he will likely be 'punting' only one half of one percent to a maximum of 2% of his total portfolio when he purchased?
For example - lets say his total portfolio is $300K - and he decides on 1% stop loss - or $3K 'punted'. Then when it falls to where his loss exceeds that - then out he goes.
On the other hand if it runs up over a few months so that he has a nice profit buffer of say $15K - then he might 'punt' $10K of that paper profit by moving his stop up?
Just because you buy $X amount doesn't mean that you have to hold till it goes to zero!
