The parallels with Dr. Bert Evatt are close. The difference is that Dr. Evatt never became Prime Minister so as to enable his manic designs to be perpetrated on his country, as they were on his party, which he kept out of office for twenty years. But Mr. Whitlam did become Prime Minister, and the most unbalanced that Australia has ever had.

regardless what you think of Gough Whitlam I think it is very poor form to speak of him so negatively at the time of his death. I even remember feeling that way when I heard how Saddam Hussain's execution played out and that he was not even allowed to say his final prayers before he was hung. We are all human and we all deserve that little bit of respect at the end of our lives. I always think to myself "there but for the grace of God go I."
