I would suggest that part of your answer lies here.
After no short selling for a fortnight (approx), all of a sudden we popped back on the shorts list.
4/11 24,200
5/11 403,583 (yes, that's over 400,000)
6/11 32,908

I had to reload the 5/11 report twice to make sure I had read the number right. On a sell day of 1.8m volume, someone sold short 400k early, and started a rout. Weak kneed sellers capitulated, and gave in. The shorter then bought back 400K of shares in the arvo, and made a few thou for his troubles.
I know many short termers will espouse the virtues of stop losses and capital protection, but those traits are what is used against you when someone decides to short big (and the 5/11 is big, relative to our company size and usual trading patterns).
