Pear, how much has capital BHP incurred in their iron ore division last 5 years. You can bet it is not the 11b to 12b that FMG spent. Maybe a fraction of that and as such they probably don't have that sort of D & A that FMG has . BHP iron ore division profit then even less tax benefits as a result. BHP is now heavily investing again to increase production and the tax benefit for them would naturally soon follow.
The 12b spent by FMG is now being amortised for taxation purpose but is not a "true" current cost of production.
