Debt is debt
Maybe, but there is a huge difference between debt used to produce income and debt that produces no income. The first is good and the latter is bad. Proper use of debt can enhance profit dramatically.
People have made fortunes using long-term margin trading.
FMG has an excellent record of debt management. Its debt position was much worse in 2012 than it is now, but it was cleverly re-financed, - much to the market's surprise at the time. No debt is repayable until 2017, and it would seem likely that even then it may be refinanced.
Everyone has their debt tolerance level, that's fine. But there are many people to whom FMG is anathema, and they use various reasons to support that. FMG made many enemies when it failed to fail way back in about 2004. There was a lot of egg on a lot of hi-profile faces.
