I pay for the desal plant through multiple properties, and I don't have an issue with paying.

When Victoria has its next drought (which it will), the desal plant will do the job it is designed for and produce water.

Rainwater tanks got filled by tanker trucks during the drought, (not by rain).

Since at least 2006, the Libs and the Labs have both agreed about the need to building a desal plant, so that has not been in dispute.

    Some dam facts:-

The total capacity of the dams is 1,812,175 ML.

    Thomson dam capacity 1,068,000 ML

Thomson accounts for nearly 60% of Melbourne’s dam storage.

The Thomson dam dropped from full to 16% during the drought.

The Thomson capacity of 1,068,000 ML dropped to around 170,000 ML, which is around 4 months of Melbourne's water usage needs.

"...The commonly-held notion that Thomson would 'drought proof' Melbourne was tested severely in the most recent drought from 1997 to 2009, when record low inflows led to the Thomson dropping from full to 16%...."
