Parliamentary Process
In May 2014 the Australian Government announced its intention to abolish ARENA. A Bill to repeal the ARENA Act was introduced into the Australian Parliament on 19 June 2014 and passed through the Lower House on 1 September 2014. The Bill has not been introduced into the Senate. ARENA continues to operate pursuant to its Act and is very much open for business.
With passage of the legislation through the Senate yet to occur, we recognise that this has caused uncertainty for some of our stakeholders. However until the legislation has been passed by both houses of Parliament and given royal assent, ARENA remains open for business.
We continue to accept and assess applications, and to approve high merit proposals that represent value for the taxpayer that are consistent with ARENA’s mandate and complementary to our existing portfolio of projects.
Our commitment is to build the energy infrastructure of the future and drive cost reductions in renewable energy technology development. In doing so we will continue to progress the most promising renewable energy technologies in order to diversify Australia’s energy system and deliver cheaper electricity to users.
Until ARENA is dumped there is plenty of $$$ for Carnegie to use. State Governments should access this pool of funds to promote green energy such as Carnegie Wave Energy.
