    Moondoong, thanks for the feedback, it sounds like you were rather too young to understand the Whitlam experience as those who lived through it as adults did. I even recall the highly energised weekly meetings of hundreds of people in our neighbour's backyard, wherein even some of Gough's ministers mingled and interacted freely with us.

    That's very different from the situation in Benambra today, wherein our local MLA, Bill Tilley, has absented himself from almost every public forum in the lead up to this election while saturating television with Liberal Party advertising. Even more interesting is that such absence is leading to the growth of a camaraderie and pact at grassroots level between other candidates and at the expense of respect for the Liberal Party.

    But it does appear as though we agree that our electoral cycle is way too short. It's a bit like comparing 20:20 cricket to test matches; all out attack versus skilful planning and grafting.
