The control isn't against Joe blow in the street it was against other trials results where they would also have had the placebo affect so 4 weeks is way out of line even with oncologists and support treatments getting better / more diligent with time. If ACL got out of their cave and actually released some graphs of just what the PFS and survival curve look like and compared against other prior trials we might see something or even if the full treatment protocol was public . Something odd is up and even more odd that with the available data they are reluctant to give any indications apart from their initial furphy that it was "geographic" - whatever that means . If they refuse to explain that then why mention it the first place or was it just a red herring for punters to put hope in and fill in a dorothy dixer phone in.


You are right that 4 weeks still wouldn't have met the primary end point but if it was 4 weeks then it would have been a good headstart to then possibly narrow down a subset of patients who did respond and if that subset was large enough in the population then we mat still ( subject to another trial or ...) had a possible salable item in the future
