Ok I just want to clear up the $500 myth. So the way it works is that you cannot buy less than $500 of a given share the first time you purchase it but once you have purchased that minimum parcel you can buy in whatever increments you like. Say like ZIP for example. I purchased the initial $500 and then I have bought a couple of small purchases of $50, $100 etc. It's just the minimum initial holding that has the requirement, I gather because they don't want millions of holders having 1 share so you have to satisfy the minimum. Of course it would be weird to be bothering to buy smaller amounts when you pay brokerage (incidentally I had free trades when I did mine) but I guess for the bigger boys the end goal is bigger. Hope that helps.
