Go to a dermatologist , not a GP . Particularly ones that specialize in looking for skin cancer . I can't recommend this strongly enough .

I know of a couple of people who died from skin cancer in their 40's . It's very aggressive and it's an unpleasant death . The good thing is that if you are checked regularly , the chances of getting skin cancer are reduced dramatically .

Nothing against GP's by the way but you need to go to a specialist . I go to a skin cancer clinic once a year . They do a thorough scan of your body and photograph any suspect areas . They then monitor those areas at each visit looking for change . It costs about $120 after the medicare rebate I think .

As a kid we used to get sunburned ( tanned ) until we were as brown as . We used to use coconut oil etc to get browner . My specialist tells me that is why now , in middle age , I have to get checked as most of the damage is done earlier in life .

I originally went to gp's and a couple of local dermatologists to be checked but I just didn't think that they were thorough enough . In the end I spoke to a relative who is a GP . His answer , go to a skin cancer specialist . I've been doing that ever since .
