    "these people"
    showing your true colours here.

"Negative gearing allows property investors to claim expenses for a rental property including interest payments, repairs and council rates to reduce tax paid on any other income."

So buying, improving, developing and renting property is not a business then?

So if you can't run it like a normal business, ie, get deductions for expenses incurred, then who will do it?
Oh, that's right, the government will step back in, being the great custodians of taxpayers money they are - very efficient!

I would love it to happen, just to see the supposed euphoric outcome for renters/ FHBers.
It's made out to be the panacea for all good things.
