My point about the cheap shot is this: Qantas are claiming about $30 million in fuel savings to date. That does not explain a first half profit of circa 300 million. So where has that come from? Maybe the restructure including the move on of something like 5000 staff (ongoing) may be contributing significantly.
Losing staff ain't pleasant but all companies over time get fat and lazy and the number of CEO's with the fortitude to make the unpleasant decisions aren't thick on the ground.
Of course there will be other factors such as fares etc but the restructure is the sustainable part.
So, by claiming fuel as the major factor is by default, minimising the other and in my opinion, more important changes.
