You're right about the debt. With so much debt and at such a low price, Santos could become a take-over target by another company with much lower debt.
Santos isn't a stock I take much interest in - so I don't know anything about the state of its shareholder register. But the huge volumes going through could provide the opportunity for another company to be building a holding.
As you say - all very unpredictable.
