Did you actually read the paper that article links to? The authors are making use of 10-year-old data for their solar PV calculations, and coming to conclusions that are over 3-fold out of step with almost every other analysis. They estimate an energy payback period of around 10 years for poly-Si PV panels, where others put it at under 3 years (and most under 2 years). Something ain't right here.
