Yea it looks like they may have pulled numbers from a bad memory, all the same, ignore the data and just look at the principles and you get a reasonable idea of energy systems of the near future, i have also been reading a lot on battery storage and cost and it seems that there is too much emphasis on offgrid or comparisons made on cost are quoting offgrid costs vs remaining on the current system, that's not what the majority of home owners are looking at, instead they are looking at backup systems that enable them to use stored power during the peak pricing period, thereby taking themselves effectively offgrid during those peak periods, i have been looking at a Sunnyboy backup system that costs around $5000, i think it's about $7700 fully installed which makes it a viable option for domestic use, and the nub of it really is that you can avoid "peak pricing" which is really what the majority want to do, i lose my 12cent FIT of course because i am using that power instead of putting it on the grid, although i suspect i will still get a small rebate, in any case the company i have been consulting with suggests waiting at least 12 months to 24 months as they say there are some real opportunities coming that will save a substantial sum of cash, especially in the cost of inverters and battery management systems.
