I think that you are falling into a classic trap.
Someone comes up with an example of terrible acts committed by humans on their fellow humans, and you feel it necessary to come up with another case that trumps it.
Example:
I'm told that the conflict in Syria has killed over 200,000 and injured about a million. Pointing out that WW2 killed around 50 to 60 million doesn't somehow distract from the misery that the people of Syria are suffering.
