Don't often post here now but one last murmur for 2014.
I was given the DVD "Copying Beethoven" which got me thinking about deaf musicians. My position is a bit like being acquainted for a lifetime with the kid next door who becomes a composer of musical compositions, and after 30 years practice writes this wonderful symphony. Draft copies escape and many critics - both so called armchair, and so called experts, poo poo the composition and predict it will be rubbish, if in fact it is ever played. But the composer persists quietly on the side, getting the best musicians for the orchestra who begin rehearsals for the opening night which many hope will reveal the masterpiece.  Some rehearsals are overheard and the odd out of tune note is greeted with derision by the experts who know how to fiddle, but not on a violin. There are many parts to this complicated symphony and some movements are released for publicity.  Many critics scoff and rant about these releases, while others take a more conservative approach, and a few positively dribble in anticipation.  Finally acts 1, 2, 3 & 4 are played to a limited dress rehearsal revealing a spectacular and wonderful symphony and there is a clammer for tickets to the opening night where every man and his dog wants to be seen.
Using the music / stock market analogy, I have never been able to read music,  I can't play any orchestral instrument, so I can't judge how the orchestra is performing.  If I like the music, I don't give a toss as to what the critics say.  It is most aggravating when they sit in the seat behind and jabber on about the second cello when they wouldn't know an ostinato from a portamento. The one and only thing I have is trust in the kid next door. So I'll wait here patiently in the queue  for the main performance to begin.
I did attend many rehearsals, but sadly family health issues have kept me home for an extended period.  All being well I may be there for opening night. Is that the conductor I hear tapping?
This was the last item I recorded  about 18 months ago.  You've all seen it probably.
