I don't think you're stupid, there are many knowledgeable posters on this thread such as w27, matakus, twigman, yourself, katy etc.
Bruce Mathieson, the billionaire, put a bit of cash into Isonea (I think a reason was his son had asthma) which is now a lot lower than his average purchase price. Many investors in biotech have done the same as yourself in investing to find a cure for a disease they or a family member has.
I can only see director purchases as positive but yes, if nominal amounts, then it could be seen to prop the price.
