gself, larger company's do buy out smaller ones, as an example, Mineral Resources bought out a firm called Polaris, why? because Polaris had the tenements to expand their business. Another minnow I have shares in have what a larger company wants and they are in the process of either merging (joint venture or a straight out purchase), the larger company has already bought a large amount of shares in the smaller one.
