What a great debate folks, really enjoyed reading it.

Electric cars will come for sure - But how long will the 'budding' graphite industry take to overpower the Oil Cartels? Not so sure about aircraft, heavy vehicles, plastics etc though.

What about the transitional phase. Unless Governments just turn off the tap like they did with analogue TV forcing everyone to replace their petrol cars then this transition will be decades long - how many 20yo cars are there out there around the world. Before that they will have to negotiate a phase out agreement with the oil cartels.

Not too concerned about what the USA have signed re 55 mpg by 2025. Next administration could just as easily tear it up if it so chose. In fact nothing any government says or signs should be taken as its intention to honour. Sadly the only Governments with long term views seem to be dictatorships and communist. The others have to market their lies to get a run. (off topic).

Anyway if you are in any doubt I suggest you refer to that documentary from 1979 for the future of Oil. Mad Max.
