    Some initial thoughts.

I suspect that hate is a primeval emotion as it is necessary for most life to survive from the moment of birth. We hate the things that we fear, so in this sense hate and fear could be seen a kissing cousins.

This is not to suggest that all life is born with prior knowledge of what to fear and hate. For example children who are born near crocodile infected rivers have to be taught to fear (and hence hate) crocodiles.

Fear and hate can be a very primitive emotion. I claim this because these emotions can bypass rational reasoning. We can for for instance learn to fear and hate people of other races based on examples of the behaviour of those around us in a way that bypasses reason.

Another reason that I think fear and hate is a primitive emotion is the need for the young to react to the source of fear before they comprehend exactly what there is to fear; a necessary condition for survival.

The problem is that the emotional state of fear and hate results in difficulties at a later age to differentiate rational from irrational fear; irrational fear becomes a burden rather than an instrument for survival.

Oops, this was supposed to be a two sentence initial response.
