Could be a rare week!

Perhaps it’s just pure chance, but 28 February, which comes exactly 60 days after December 30, happens to be Rare (Orphan) Disease Day around the globe. The day caps off Rare Disease Week, which has been raising awareness of rare diseases since 2009.

Rare Disease Week will even be marked on Capitol Hill. The likely attendant publicity would make the end of February a perfect time for Neuren to announce a new orphan drug designation.

The chances of Neuren receiving orphan therapy designation for NNZ-2566 in the treatment of Rett Syndrome are excellent, in my opinion. It is not the first company to have sought orphan drug designation for a therapy for Rett Syndrome. Three other drugs have already received the designation, but none as yet has received marketing approval.
