Why can't we all just intelligently discuss issues without getting to aggressive and abusing each other?

Facts we all agree on:

1. ISIS is bad, wrong, stupid, suspicious, savage, an abomination, hopefully soon to be extinct.
2. Society deserves better than the above savagery.
3. Everybody is free to (peacefully) express their views of the world.
4. Most of us would get along if we met up in real life for a drink or some dinner.
5. There is an overwhelming majority of anti-Islamic sentiment going around.

Disagree:

1. Islam is not the root of all evil. Let us debate this like humans, not savages.
2. What ordinary Muslims should do. Nobody seems to have a legitimate and reasonable answer to this.
3. The majority of the world's problems right now are directly related to Islam.

Feel free to chop/change the above.

Please, let's be nice to each other. I agree I am a smartarse sometimes and I sincerely apologise for that. I'll try harder to stop. Please forgive me.
