A comment on the 'Unique Spookfish Capabilities' document released 10 hours ago  or so.

Lots of wonderful claims in there about efficiencies and lowering the cost of 3D capture, and areas covered, eg, they can shoot whole countries rather than a piecemeal approach. It still costs money to shoot, process and serve photos of the outback but who's going to use them? Even if they halve the cost and time of capture, compared to Nearmap, I don't expect this to be significant enough to set them apart, considering the already low cost of capture, and considering how far behind the 8 ball Spookfish is.

Regarding the 3D claims from the announcement:

    'Pervasive 3D Models
Current precision 3D models are expensive, typically costing well over $10,000/km2. The
Spookfish system is designed to allow pervasive 3D models to be produced for well
under $100/km2, with potential for capture rates over 25,000 km2/day.'

If true, that's great, and if there really is potential to capture 25000km2 a day in 3D, that's wonderful. But to process this data into 3D models, upload and serve every few weeks, is pretty crazy. For eg, they say the cost is $100/km2. 25000 km2 per day is 2.5 million dollars a day. Sydney area is about 13000km2. Can you see them spending 1.25 million on 3d just for sydney every three weeks? That would add up to an annual capture cost for 3D bill for Sydney alone of 21.7 million dollars. Add the other capital cities, maybe 100 million a year. Not for the entire country, just the capital cities.

The 3D stuff even at $100/km2 is for contract runs only or do it once just for capital citiesin australia  if someone is kind enough to hand over 6 million dollars (5 cities, 12000km2 each at $100/km2)

So lots of chest beating going on at Spookfish and probably good money to be made on the stock as the suckers get conned by the story they are selling.
