I went aboard that sub at the Sydney Maritime Museum a few months ago and was shown the wire guided torpedoes and other ones with much greater range that were faster and when they got near to the target leapt out of the water and acted like convensional rockets. And they have been in service for several decades. Scary stuff. If I was an aircraft carrier skipper I would not go anywhere near the Iranian coast but would stand well off and use air power and protective ships to detect and destroy threats very far away to elliminate these kinds of weapons.
I reckon the Iranians are cruising for a bruising - but they know that the USA has lost face over Iraq plus they are way over stretched militarily at the moment.
