Feb 16, 2015 (SeeNews) - Israeli firm WERPO (OTCMKTS:BBRD) has a plan to eventually deploy 500 MW of sea wave power capacity in Ghana, an official told SeeNews Renewables on Monday.
The wave power company announced in early February it had entered into a partnership agreement with The Africa Center for Energy Policy (ACEP) to build a power station in Ghana using WERPO’s technology. The Israeli firm’s director Shmuel Ovadia said at the time that he sees an opportunity to generate “tens of millions of dollars” in revenues from such installations.
WERPO, which stands for Wave Electricity Renewable Power Ocean, holds the intellectual property, technology, know-how and contracts previously associated with Israel-based sea wave power firm SDE Ltd. The company has similar joint ventures in China and the Caribbean.
A representative for WERPO told SeeNews Renewables that the company has already built nine wave power devices at home in Israel and two models in China. Still, none of its power stations have started commercial operations yet.
