Hi HB .. yes, the BAE bill to build the first one was about A$1.9billion but they got cheaper as they went along.

The Collins sub is 77m long and the Astute a bit longer at 97m sooo not much bigger.

The Astute sub has Rolls Royce PWR2 'whole of life' nuclear reactor which never needs refuelling.

And the only time they need to dock is when they run out of steaks/snags and weetbix .. true.

Yes .. and let the word out that we have serious attack/killer subs protecting our shores.
