That Socrates quote is a bit of a conundrum and it may or may not have been for my benefit.

So let me put my point of view in perspective.

You asked for an opinion and I offered my opinion. I do not make the claim that it is correct by any minuscule degree but it's the best my feeble brain can come up with.
I have never had an original thought.
I'm widely read and take on board only according to my particular prejudice.
I know more than some and less than others.
I know the concepts of science and religion must be used together to come up with any kind of answer. One without the other can not begin to answer such a question.
Nobody will ever know how the universe came to be, apart from the fact that it did not happen according to literal Genesis. Though Genesis does lead us into awe and wonder.
The theory of everything does not exist and will never provide answers because such a theory can not be formulated when one is on the inside of such a theory.

'Absolute silence leads to sadness. It is the image of death.' So I had a go.
