The Government will pass its anti-corruption policy this week and release it as a public document by Friday.
Speaking to participants at an anti-corruption workshop for civil societies yesterday, Chief Technical Advisor of the Government’s reform programs, Moses Saitala says the Government is aware of the public sector’s demand to fight corruption.
Mr. Saitala says the Government wants to improve Solomon Islands’ ranking on the Corruption Perceptions Index with this policy.
He says it will involve the establishment of an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) to be in effect this year and fully operational by next year.
Meanwhile Chair of Transparency Solomon Islands, Ruth Liloqula says there’s concern about the lack of consultation with other stakeholders about the corruption policy.
She says the Government should have consulted stakeholders who can provide and share vital information before Government policies are passed.

Looks like the SI Government will get the ICAC up and running before the Appeal date.
Sumitomo may need to re-evaluate their position.
