Quangos, well stated explanation for the current wanderings of GEM.

rustic, I agree that Islay has some very sound comments, and have said so in at least one earlier post. Truth is, no one knows for certain where a stock will go until it gets there. It's all probability with imperfect information and a semi-random (and occasionally price managed) market -- remember the US hedge fund manager's quote that the market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent. An when one or two instos and their friends are dumping 3M borrowed shares on one day, we have to wait even longer for the fundamentals to have their true effect.

huntsman666, always a tough call when or whether to sell. GEM might be a dud, but I don't think so judging from the research I've done. Possibly throttled back due to increased costs (ratio changes), but these changes might be enabling GEM to buy the recent acquisitions at 4X EBIT (vs target 5-6 times). Some refer to increased competition for acquisitions. But they don't mention that apparently 75% of the market is still small shops, and that the market is ripe for consolidation.

Topped up my GEM holding a couple of days ago, and only time will tell whether it was wise or catching a falling sword.
