Market Makers trade to create volume and movement (or "fix" VWAPs). Offically they provide liquidity. Usually zero sum gain on their behalf - but for some reason on behalf of client. Some Coys have been thought to use them to remain in S&P indexes. Very common to see MM trades in ETF & ETC markets. Did the volume come by EOD - looks like it.
