Exploration to date at Curara Well has focused on the zones around the interpreted position of the Jenkins Fault. The western part of the tenement has generally been ignored in the past due to the extensive presence of granite mapped at surface and thus considered of limited prospectivity. A new model recently postulated by Thundelarra’s Chief Geologist offered an interpretation that the granite at surface may possibly be thin cover of granite sheets over prospective sediments and volcaniclastics of the Narracoota formation below. This theory, that the granites were fractured and thrust over the top of the sediments in a continental collision event, is yet to be tested. In support of the theory is the fact that this is the exact geological setting 20 kilometres or so to the north where the Plutonic gold mine and surrounding satellites (which have produced in excess of six million ounces of gold) are hosted by Archaean greenstones that are partially concealed beneath over-thrust sheets of granite.
