Even if this is the beginning of the end for Metcash I don't think the current share price is justified. After all supermarkets don't lose their market over night. They will very gradually over a long period lose their customers but will continue to generate profit (even if a declining one) for some time. This is the worst case scenario and in my opinion unlikely. In any case, at a current P/E of close to 6 the price doesn't properly reflect reality I think.
