A company can't compulsorily acquire your shares in a take over until it reaches 90% of acceptances of all the ordinary shares on issue. Someone who holds more than 10% can stop the process and potentially help other minority shareholders and themselves to receive a premium over the original offer later down the track if the suitor is willing to pay more to mop them up.
