Notwithstanding legal opinions et al to the contrary, political sensitivities and considerations must triumph in the end.

Under the current circumstances, the WA Govt and RIO had better have a good story about their communications as any links will be scrutinised in the coming months.

And the minister should spell out what his interpretation of "the public interest" is. If not, he should be forced to do so through legal action - hang the cost.

Labor's political opponents would be very interested to see another debacle in WA (of the B.Burke variety) played out in public.

I maintain what I posted earlier. The best solution is a win/win/win whereby RIO acquires CAZ.

This keeps the WA Govt decision and their linbks with RIO from public scrutiny, RIO gets the lease back in a morally and legally fair manner and CAZ shareholders get compensated - in cash or RIO shares.

Of course the usual sneers from "knowledgable" posters will follow about how naive is the solution.

According to these pundits, it "lacks knowledge of how the markets work".

Bah, humbug.
