Very simple, as part of his employment contract he was given some options which he was able to exercise at a price of $1.40. Which of course he did, with the share price at $2.40.
The encouraging thing though, is that (as yet) he hasn't sold them on market to make an instant $250k profit. Probably doesn't need the money, though
