What is common to everyone's experience? Not the content of ones consciousness, but consciousness itself. It's the one thing that unites all of us, and it's the one thing without which we and all we experience would not exist. If we speak of cognisant beginnings, we must necessarily explore that which makes cognition possible, and that is consciousness.
Exploring consciousness is really just being the consciousness we already are, and not letting the content of consciousness draw us away from the alpha and omega of our existence, consciousness.
