PUBLIC CONSULTATION ON PARCEL DELIVERY LAUNCHED ON 6 MAY

Dear all,

most of you are of course already aware of the adoption of the DSM initiative on 6 May. See the Commission's press release at http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-15-4919_en.htm.

Again, no surprise to the members of this group: "More efficient and affordable parcel delivery" is part of the agenda, and we are working towards a targeted initiative (to be adopted in the first half of 2016) aimed at enhancing price transparency and regulatory oversight.

As part of our "impact assessment", we have just launched a public consultation on this matter, which will remain open until 29 July:

To be more precise, you will actually find TWO questionnaires under this heading:

1. The first one is primarily addressed to RETAILERS and their CUSTOMERS (but also allows other stakeholders to express their views).

2. The second is addressed to the "delivery world", and is - as you might expect - much more detailed and technical, so as to allow us to obtain an even clearer picture of this complex sector. With this questionnaire, we are targeting incumbent postal operators as much as private operators, including the express industry, and any other operator involved in this trade.

I would really appreciate if the members of this group would not only take the time to respond themselves, but also to make your own networks and contacts aware of this consultation. The higher the turnout, the higher the quality of any policy initiative that we might launch on this basis.

By the way, it would also be great to attract as many "individual consumers" as possible - part of the first questionnaire is explicitely dedicated to them/you/us. We are all not just professionals, but also consumers - so please don't hestitate to share your shopping experience with us! And ask friends and family to do likewise.

I'd love to fill it out myself, actually, but this might trigger some concerns about potential conflicts of interest... ;-)
