The greater chance for this card will be that the banks will want to part of it as will the state govt's by implication there transit bodies.
What would be the point of having multiple smart cards?
For one they cost too much!
The smart card is quite capable of holding all the info and applications that can be thrown at it, its designed to replace magnetic cards.
So now perhaps when we are talking about ERG and other smart card players in Australia we are talking about being on a stored information system that is being set up by the Australian government.
This of course is quite apart from contactless credit or debit tokens or mini-cards or cards in handsets to be used for transit services and other small purchases. These may well contain a subset of the financial information stored on the single, possibly combo style Oz smart card.
I just really cannot see the banks not trying to gain space on this card and what about the State and local governments. Wouldn't it be simpler for the payment of bills, rates etc?
