RM, I know we disagree on religious based topics.
In my view the "understanding" of "the stupendous odds of a time and chance only universe presents" is based purely on opinion.
I don't believe it happened by chance - but I understand that we disagree on the reasons that it exists the way that it does.
I don't think it's as simple as: either God did it or it was chance. There is at least one other option.
In any case what are the chances of a God being created from nothing? And by chance?
We don't understand how the cosmos along with laws of nature started, but do know that they exist. We don't know how life started but know that it did.
You can take a view that all this happened because a God decided to make it happen or that something else happened. I think that the God option introduces more problems than it solves.
On the point of God who hung on a cross for His people.
This is a view propagated by Christians, but also challenged by many.
The problem as I see it is that this event (assuming it actually happened) has been the source of much division and suffering for 2,000 years. There is no evidence that God cares and intervenes to alleviate suffering. A lot of people make a good living out of propagating what I think is a myth that God cares and alleviates suffering.
