China-funded highway projects to continue in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO -- Sri Lanka will continue its multi- million US dollar infrastructure upgrade that includes major projects with China, the country's Highway and Investment Minister Hashim has said.

Minister Hashim met with Ambassador Yi Xianliang to exchange views on bilateral infrastructure cooperation, a statement from the ministry said on Tuesday. The minister thanked China's long- term support to Sri Lanka and appreciated Chinese companies' contributions to its economic development.

Ambassador Yi said China, as a true friend of Sri Lanka and a reliable development partner, will continue to support Sri Lanka's effort to develop the country and improve the livelihood of its people.

He reiterated the contracts and agreement of these projects should be respected and interests of Chinese companies protected.

The Sri Lankan government is reviewing multi-million-dollar highway projects including Chinese ones but have insisted work will not stop on any of the ventures, especially two highways in the capital of Colombo and the southern part of the island.

A special committee has been formed to review all road projects signed by the previous government and some of the projects will be reviewed to reduce the cost through decreasing the scope.

Switzerland backs reforms in Sri Lanka

Switzerland today extended support to Sri Lanka’s reforms process including the 19th Amendment to the constitution, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said.

The Swiss Ambassador to Sri Lanka Heinz Walker-Nederkoorn has said that he was impressed with the democratic process Sri Lanka displayed at the January election.

“Passing of 19-Amendment shows that the spirit of reform is very much alive in Sri Lanka. We, the Swiss, would like to support this Lankan reform spirit” he said.

The Swiss Ambassador was addressing the first ever Swiss-Sri Lanka Business Discussion Roundtable held in Colombo today. The Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen also attended the discussion.
Walker-Nederkoorn, addressing the event, said:

“Sri Lanka’s potential is high. I am pleased to share the first Swiss–Sri Lanka Business Roundtable in Colombo today. After the January Presidential polls, Sri Lanka started a comprehensive reforms process. As a representative of one of the oldest democracies in the world, I am very much impressed by the democratic process Sri Lanka displayed on 08 January. It is a unique event, and a very good start and passing of 19 Amendment shows that the spirit of reform is very much alive in Sri Lanka. We, the Swiss, would like to support this Lankan reform spirit.”

He also noted that significant economic and political changes are taking place in Sri Lanka under the leadership of President Maithripala Sirisena. (Colombo Gazette)

For a long time the Macro Drivers were dominating in the Risk/Value assessment of MRF in my opinion. Now we see the Tech Drivers connecting with real Mining Production/Processing. Not just our Deductions but real science.

Now MRF must integrate Graphene into its targets and investment. This world market is now their to exponentially capture. WOW....
