When Nepal was hit by that tragic earthquake, it was users using Google Maps with images provided by DigitalGlobe to assist disaster relief efforts and identify areas of risk to landslide etc, the google map community had updated images to work on within hours of the earthquake thanks to World View 3 satellite.

Also disaster assistance imagery is a service Google provides free.
