re: computer question - www.webroot.com You can also try running msconfig which comes with windows.

    Just go start,run,msconfig

There you can see what items are loading on startup, what services are running etc and disable any that are suspect.

I have to admit that it can be difficult sometimes to get rid of spyware/viruses. Often because the program is memory resident, you'll try and get rid of it from the registry etc then after the reboot it will reappear again.

The best thing to do is to run virus/spyware scans in safe mode - you get into it by pressing F8 before windows loads then option 3.

One recommendation to avoid spyware is to either
    1) buy a macintosh
    2) use firefox rather than internet explorer.
    3) Download vmware or microsoft virtual pc and do all your browsing in a virtual environment, These allow you to create snapshots so you can resume to a certain state - much better than windows system restore.
