    Hi Madam

""Come to think of it, I recall the world having something like these in existence a few decades ago; it was called the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

Problem was, it turned out to be unsustainable, and after a while, it went out of business."

Not quite gone out of business. Alive and doing well in the Republic of China. You know that country that has sustained us by buying most of our goods.

But that aside, if you are a capitalist and you believe in competition, why have you allowed oligopolies to take over everything in our society?

You can't answer a poster's opinion with smart alec comments when in fact all you have shown with your examples where in our so called capitalist system there is no such a thing as competition. If you think having just two retailers in our country or 4 banks is competition then you got rocks in your head. What about petrol, can I get different prices for petrol?

It is not straight forward as you make it sound.

And also if you do a bit of actual research, you may find that the Soviets did not fail because of their economic system, it failed because of their political system. Communism is an economic system. not a political system.

    Pear
