lrj, you have hit it on the head. They dont want to be liberated by the US, even though they would be happy to be rid of Saddam.
I agree there is a "mixed" reaction to our forces in Iraq, but I would say most would be fighting, not for Saddam, but to keep the Coalition, esp. the US OUT.
This was proven by the reported returning of hordes of young Iraqis from Saudi, who had previously had left because of Saddam, to fight against the coalition.
They are not going back to fight for Saddam, they are going back to fight for Iraq.Hence, they would rather be under Saddam than be liberated by our coalition.
I guess Baghdad is going to be the proof of the pudding..........if the people there unilaterally oppose the "liberation", re-building and restructuring will be nigh on impossible.
The scenario is now well beyond debate on rights or wrongs of our involvement, in my opinion. What counts is moral support for our troops, and a sensible and PRACTICAL view of the future.
Despite the support of friendly ME governments, it is obvious that the citizens of ALL Muslim countries now hate our guts.
We have to find a way to win them over as to our intentions short of bombing them out of existance.

    Cheers
    GZ
