Tesla may manufacture batteries in the U.S. before long, but what about the rest of them?
Are they buying their magnets etc from China? Are they manufacturing in China?
China has a stranglehold on REE production at present. Producing high purity REEs is an area where China has expertise. The economic advantages of mass production make China hard to compete against.
There is a very low apatite for risk by Western capital, not surprising considering economic problems in Western economies. I can't see this changing until demand improves substantially.
