Dis, perhaps an 18 to 24 year old should put away $10/week while they are working to ensure that "safety net" you speak of. Perhaps mum and dad can chip in and help.

A lot of families and people dip into their savings to get by. Perhaps a 22yo who faces "devastation" by not having some cash for a month needs to have a good look in the mirror OR perhaps learn not to live beyond your means every week and use this as a greater lesson for when he hits 40 +.
