EMH, Reverse osmosis desalination processes are well established. There is not an issue of how much fresh water you can squeeze out of 2 l of seawater since there is plenty of sea. It is more a question of how long you can get the membranes to last before requiring replacement. The pores clog up. It means a high consumable cost. Desalination is an expensive process for gaining fresh water but is reliable and is desirable if you are isolated.
