Hi Rats, there's actually an economic bargaining theory that was developed from that very analogy, think it was portrayed in that movie, A beautiful mind. Think it was John Nash, though not sure if your conclusion was correct, I thought he concluded that the guys at the dance would have more chance if they went for the less attractive girl instead of all fighting for the same one, from there he developed his bargaining theory.
